Meet the Artist
I’m Kay Boyer, an Iowa-based artist and founder of The Elevated Cowgirl, a woman-owned brand inspired by western culture, cowgirl style, and country living.
I was born and raised in rural Iowa, where I continue to live and work with my husband and two kids.
My background is in small business ownership and retail. For over a decade, I have operated brick-and-mortar shops, online businesses, and sold at markets across the country.
I began painting at the age of 40. What started as a creative outlet quickly developed into a focused artistic pursuit. My work centers on western themes, cowgirl identity, and the modern rural woman. I’m drawn to strong feminine subjects, western heritage, and the balance between grit and beauty. My paintings are an extension of the aesthetic and values behind my boutique.
You can find my artwork and curated collections here online, at select markets and western events, and in retail shops through wholesale partnerships.
Along with discovering my love of painting at the age of 40, I began learning to rope, which I love and I reconnected with horses through riding lessons and my most recent venture focuses on horse training, emphasizing groundwork and effective communication with the horse — a deep passion of mine.
I am so thankful for this decade of my life. Painting and connecting with horses again has brought me profound joy.
